Endurance, Wisdom, and Genuine Faith
God is not the author of evil enticement (Jas 1:13), yet in Job the adversary acts only within limits God sets (Job 1:12; Job 2:6). Together the books hold God’s sovereignty and His goodness without explaining every suffering.
The adversary acts only within limits God sets (Job 1:12; Job 2:6). God’s speeches from the whirlwind (Job 38:1-41:34) lead Job to confess “no plan of Yours can be thwarted” (Job 42:2). James: “If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that” (Jas 4:15).
Paul quotes Job in Rom 11:35 (“Who has first given to God…”, compare Job 41:11) and in 1Cor 3:19 (“He catches the wise in their craftiness”, from Job 5:13).
Plan humbly, with “if the Lord wills” as a real conviction rather than a formula.
Paul’s “Who has first given to God, that God should repay him?” corresponds to Job 41:11 (Hebrew text; the LXX differs).
